Directors with backgrounds in areas like cybersecurity, financial reporting, technology, human capital, and industry-specific knowledge are on the rise. Our panel of directors and thought-leaders will explore the evolving balance between generalists and specialists in board composition. They will discuss why good business judgment remains foundational, and how deep expertise in directors can sometimes cause unintended pressures, while also adding real value. One size does not fit all -- the optimal mix often varies between public and private companies, start-ups and seasoned organizations, and sectors as different as biotech and consumer products. As board expectations expand and professional specialization grows, getting the balance right has never been more important.
